How Thick Should Wall Panels Be?

How Thick Should Wall Panels Be?

You may have noticed that wall panels not only come in a variety of sizes, but also a range of thicknesses. You may also be wondering if the thickness of a wall panel really matters when it comes to renovating your bathroom.

To help clarify, we’ve looked at the different thicknesses available and the benefits of each.

What is the Thickness of a Bathroom Wall Panel?

The thickness of a bathroom wall panel is exactly that – how thick it is. Our ranges come in three thicknesses, 5mm, 8mm and 10mm. Each panel comes with its own benefits and differences and may be more suited to a particular application than another.

What are the Benefits of a 5mm Thick Wall Panel?

The 5mm thick wall panel is the thinnest wall panel available. Being thin, they make for minimum intrusion and take up less space than the thicker 8mm and 10mm panels. They are also extremely lightweight and easy to handle, making them ideal for ceilings – although they are also the perfect all-rounder and can be used in a variety of different rooms in your home.

5mm thick wall panels can be fitted over existing tiles or panels and may be slightly lower in cost than their 8mm and 10mm counterparts.

What are the Benefits of an 8mm Thick Wall Panel?

Although only 3mm thicker than the slim 5mm wall panel, 8mm wall panels do offer a more durable option with increased impact resistance. These panels are also extremely versatile and can be used in a variety of locations, including ceilings, and again, can be fitted straight over existing tiles or old panels.

What are the Benefits of a 10mm Thick Wall Panel?

10mm is the thickest of the wall panels we offer. These panels are extremely hard wearing – even more so than the 8mm wall panels – and can withstand harder knocks and bangs, making them the perfect choice for homes with small children. They are also ideal for use in showers and wet rooms due to their durability. However, due to their size we would not recommend these panels for ceilings.

Does the Thickness of a Bathroom Wall Panel Matter?

Where you are using your bathroom wall panels will dictate the thickness of panel you use. As mentioned above, if you are putting your panels on a ceiling, we would advise using a 5mm or 8mm thick panel, whereas if you are looking for a long-lasting solution for your shower, a 10mm thick wall panel may be more suitable.

If you are unsure as to which thickness of panel you need for your project, call our expert team today on 0800 22 77 77 and they will be able to help find the perfect wall panel for you.
