Tall Order: How to Decorate a Bathroom with High Ceilings

Tall Order: How to Decorate a Bathroom with High Ceilings

A bathroom with a high ceiling can be both a blessing and a curse. Whilst it creates a spacoius and airy ambience, it can be difficult to know how best to utilise this space. This blog will look at ways to plan and decorate your high-ceilinged bathroom to really make the most of it.

Use Pendant Lights

High ceilings provide the perfect opportunity to incorporate statement lighting into your bathroom design. Pendant lights will create a focal point whilst adding both elegance and drama to the room. However, it is important to ensure that the size of the light complements the size of the room.

Mount Units to Walls

Embrace your high ceilings by mounting units on to your bathroom walls. These will not only emphasise the space in the room, but also maximise storage. You could also consider commissioning floor to ceiling cupboards and shelves to really make the most of the space.

Carefully Arrange the Layout

With any bathroom project, layout is key. Whilst your bathroom may have a high ceiling, it is important to consider the floor space when planning your layout. Take note of any recesses, architectural features such as beams or fireplaces, and any existing bathroom furniture, as you can use these to guide your layout.

If you are limited on space, consider installing ‘floating’ furniture, such as sinks and cabinets. This will help to ‘declutter’ the floor area and create a sense of space.

If you have a very large bathroom with high ceilings – and the budget! – you could consider a free- standing bath together with floor to ceiling cupboards, which will help to fill the space and create a homely, welcoming atmosphere.

Consider Shower Layout

A standard shower in a high-ceilinged bathroom can look odd and slightly out of proportion. However, there are ways you can balance this. Using a longer than standard shower curtain will help to bring the ceiling down in the shower area. However, be careful not to make the curtain too long as that could also look out of scale. You could also consider installing an ‘architectural valance’ above the shower. This will add an interesting design feature as well as reducing the ceiling height and enabling you to install a standard-length shower curtain.

How to Use Wall Panels with High Ceilings

Bathroom wall panels can be used in high ceilinged bathrooms, just as they can in rooms with ceilings of a standard height. Being large and lightweight, they make installation a breeze and enable you to

cover more wall space in less time. They are also easy to clean, so there is no need to balance on a ladder to scrub grout.

Available in an array of designs, colours, and textures, which emulate real materials from contemporary concrete and opulent marble to warm wood and traditional tile, there is sure to be a wall panel that beautifully blends into your bathroom.
