How to Fix Damaged Bathroom Walls on a Budget

How to Fix Damaged Bathroom Walls on a Budget

Sometimes damage to bathroom walls is inevitable and hard to avoid. One answer is to install PVC bathroom wall panels, which are durable and require very little maintenance to keep them looking like new. However, if this is not possible, here are a few tips on how to repair your bathroom wall.

Cracks in Plaster

It is very common for cracks to appear in plaster, maybe through drying out, if the wall has recently been plastered, or movement of the building if it is an older home, and they are fairly simple to fix.

Tools Required

To fix your cracked plaster you will need a scraper, a clean cloth, a suitable ‘filler’ product, and fine sandpaper.

How to

Firstly, enlarge the crack slightly with your scraper, as fillers do not work as well on hair line cracks, and wipe the crack clean. You can now apply your ‘filler’ – we would recommend dampening the crack with water first, as this will help the ‘filler’ to bond. Once the ‘filler’ has dried completely, gently rub it down and wipe to create a smooth, clean surface. It is now ready to paint.

Holes

Although deeper and wider than a crack, a hole in a plaster wall can still be fixed.

Tools Required

To help fill in your hole you will need a putty knife, a ‘filler’ product, fine sandpaper and a clean cloth.

How to

Before you start, clean the area around the hole. You can then fill the hole with your ‘filler’ product and smooth it with a putty knife. It is important to remember to smooth the ‘filler’ as this will provide you with a more professional result. Once the filler is dry, rub it down with your sandpaper to ensure a smooth finish.

Wall Panels

PVC bathroom wall panels are specifically designed to be hardwearing – particularly the 10mm thick panels – and can withstand the knocks which come with every day living. As such, it is very rare that you will have to ‘fix’ your wall panel.

However, if damage does occur, wall panels are extremely easy to replace. As they do not require any grout and are easily fixed to any wall, your damaged panel can simply be replaced.
