How to Clean PVC Cladding

How to Clean PVC Cladding

Compared to timber cladding, PVC cladding is extremely easy to maintain. It doesn’t require regular treatments to protect it from the elements and only needs an occasional wash to keep it looking like new. But how do you clean PVC cladding? This blog aims to provide you with all you need to know about keeping your cladding clean.

The Importance of Cleaning Cladding

Whilst most PVC cladding is weatherproof and able to withstand harsh weather, it is still important to keep it clean, both for practical and aesthetic purposes.

Why Should you Clean PVC Cladding?

  • To keep your PVC cladding looking bright and beautiful.

  • To prevent the build-up of dirt and debris, as this can lead to the development of

mould which can cause permanent stains.

  • Cladding is not only a design feature, but it also protects your home from the elements. As such, keeping it in good working order will ensure your home is protected for the future.

What Will I Need To Clean PVC Cladding?

  • Bucket

  • Warm soapy water

  • Sponge

  • Clean microfibre cloth

  • Clean water

The Steps to Cleaning PVC Cladding

  1. Fill your bucket with warm water and add a very small amount of washing up liquid to create a soapy solution.

  2. Apply the warm soapy water to the cladding with a sponge or microfibre cloth, removing any dirt and debris from the surface.

  3. Rinse the cladding with clean warm water, helping to remove any leftover dirt and soap suds.

  4. Buff dry the cladding with a clean microfibre cloth to add shine and remove any soap scum, which can dry to leave marks.

Advice and Best Practices

As always, when working at height ensure you are safe. Always use a sturdy, safe ladder and ask a friend, family member or neighbour to hold the bottom of your ladder while you work.

  • When applying the soapy water to your cladding, regularly rinse your cloth or sponge to prevent the spread of dirt.

  • You can use specially formulated PVC cladding cleaner rather than washing up liquid but do read the instructions very carefully.

  • Do not use chemical cleaners or bleach on your cladding, as these can cause damage and discolouration, which will be irreversible.
