PVC skirtings boards provide both a professional finish and protection to a room. They are also extremely simple to install. This blog looks at the tools you’ll need to make installation easy, as well as a step-by-step guide on how to fit your new PVC skirting boards like a professional.
Tools Needed to Install PVC Skirting
To install your PVC skirting successfully you will need the following tools:
-
Clean cloth
-
Mitre saw
-
Tenon saw
-
Mitre box
-
Pencil
-
Appropriate adhesive
-
Gloves
Step by Step Guide
-
Ensure your walls are clean and free of any old adhesive using a cloth.
-
Measure your skirting board by using the wall on to which you’re affixing it and marking
your cut line.
-
Cut the skirting board to length. If it is a straight cut, use the mitre saw and mitre box to
ensure an accurate cut.
-
The corners need to be cut to a 45° angle to ensure they fit flush. To achieve this, use a
tenon saw and a mitre box, which will guarantee you the correct angle each time. When cutting skirting for corners, always check that you are cutting your angle in the right direction!
-
Apply adhesive, which is specially adapted for PVC skirting, to the back of the board. If you do this in a wiggly line – from the top of the board to the bottom – you will ensure you cover all the board and ensure maximum coverage.
-
Press and stick the PVC skirting board to the wall, pressing firmly in place for several seconds.
-
Work your way around the room until every wall is covered.
