How To Fix Uneven Walls With Wall Panels

How To Fix Uneven Walls With Wall Panels

Many homes will have uneven walls, which can make decorating a bit of a challenge. However, there is an answer – PVC wall panels. This blog looks at how you can create beautifully even walls and a stylish home by choosing to install wall panels.

The traditional and modern approach

Traditionally, an uneven wall can be corrected by either plastering the wall or, if the wall is particularly irregular, installing plaster boards. Both of these methods will require the skills of an expert, especially if you want a guaranteed professional finish.

An alternative method is to install PVC wall panels. Wall panels are extremely forgiving and can cover a multitude of imperfections. They are also very easy to fit and can be installed by any competent DIYer.

Preparing the wall for wall panels

Before you start installing your new PVC wall panels, it is important to prepare your walls. Whilst wall panels are very forgiving, your walls should be as flat and as even as possible. Remove any loose tiles, wallpaper, or other wall coverings, flatten any high spots and fill in any low spots, and clean the surface well to remove any dirt or grease.  Once the walls are dry, you can start fitting your new wall panels.

How to correctly fit wall panels to uneven wall

If your wall is sufficiently flat enough, you should be able to install your new PVC wall panels as per the manufacturer's instructions – read our easy-to-follow step-by-step guide to help you install your National Plastics wall panels.

However, if the wall is bowing, your panels may not adhere to the walls correctly. In this case, you may need to install a batten frame to create an even surface on which to fix your wall panels.
Before you install the battens, you need to check your walls can support a firm screw hold. You then need to ensure there is a vertical batten underneath every panel join. In those areas where heavy accessories, such as a sink or toilet, are to be attached you must install additional battens to provide extra support.

Benefits of wall panels for an uneven wall

Cost effective

PVC wall panels are one of the most cost-effective options for an uneven wall. You do not need to employ the services of a professional plaster or builder, which saves both time and money, and the wall panels can be installed in less than half the time it takes to fit traditional tiles – you can even do it yourself!

Clean Consistent Visual Aesthetic

Wall panels provide a consistent visual aesthetic, creating a cohesive, clean, and stylish finish in any room, regardless of wall surface.

Modern look

There are myriad designs and colours of wall panels available. Here at National Plastics, we offer a wide range of styles from traditional tile and natural wood to contemporary concrete and luxurious marble.
