A look at the best and worst bathroom trends of 2023

The latest bathroom design trends

When redesigning a bathroom it’s often hard to know where to start. Whether you want to create a bold statement or a tranquil ambience, there are myriad materials and bathroom furniture to choose from.

Will bathroom wall panels be big this year or will it be tiles?

In this blog we look at a few of the trends which are set to make their mark this year – as well as those which are on their way out. Hopefully this will give you a good starting point for your own bathroom renovation.

The Best Bathroom Trends of 2023

Here are just a few trends that the experts are predicting will be big in 2023.

Lighter tones

Lighter tones such as taupe, cream, and light pinks are set to take the place of white in our bathrooms. They create a soothing, tranquil aesthetic without being harsh. Add to this the use of warmer woods and you have a beautifully light, calming bathroom in which to relax.

Nature-inspired elements

2023 will see more naturally-inspired elements being featured in our bathrooms. Natural wood tones, organic materials, rounded edges, and foliage will bring the outside in to create a comforting, soulful ambience.

Mix and match tiles

There are no rules when it comes to choosing which tiles go where. Mixing styles and textures, such as taking a textured tile and mixing it with a flat painted wall, will add depth and interest to any bathroom.

Spa-like bathrooms

During the pandemic when we weren’t allowed to indulge in our favourite spa treatments, spa inspired bathrooms really took off – and this is a trend that is set to stay. Create an indulgent room with a free-standing bath tub – with added jets for that extra touch of ‘spa’ – and an elegant rain fall shower and luxuriate your time away.

Warm metallics

Brushed metallic accessories, such as taps, draw handles and mirrors, add a sense of glamour without being brash. They also perfectly complement the new lighter tones of 2023.

The Worst Bathroom Trends of 2023

There are some trends that are on their way out this year. Here are a few we think you should avoid if you’re looking to create a bathroom design that will stand the test of time.

All white

The all-white trend which has been around for a while is slowly waning. As mentioned above, this harsh, clinical look has been replaced with a trend for warmer tones, which still result in a light, bright finish, but with a warmer feel.

Minimalism

The minimalist look has always been difficult to achieve – done well it can look stylish but done badly and it looks like you’ve forgotten to decorate. The trend now is leaning more towards the eclectic, a more lived-in and loved finish.

Chevron tiles

Once a stylish addition to any bathroom, chevron tiles should now be a thing of the past according to many experts. Although a bold statement, chevron tiles are being replaced with softer designs that are easier on the eye.

Lime wash

Lime wash has been used to recreate the look of stone. Although effective and cheaper than the real stone alternative, it is now starting to look dated – if you have lime wash, we’re sure many of you have already painted over it!

Glitzy mosaics and busy patterns

Once all the rage, these shiny, sparkly small mosaic tiles have had their day. They are being replaced with more natural looking tiles in warmer tones and calmer patterns. Busy patterns are also a trend that seem to be diminishing, with many of us looking to create a more calming, relaxing atmosphere with plainer designs, using texture for interest rather than patterns.

How to choose timeless and stylish design elements that will stand the test of time.

Trends are subjective and in your own home you’re free to decorate your bathroom how you wish. However, if you’re struggling for inspiration, we hope this blog has gone some way to helping you decide where to start.
